According to the Telugu calendar, the Telugu New Year is celebrated every year as ‘Yugadi’ to mark the beginning of the new year. Yugadi festival is celebrated in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. The same day is celebrated in Maharashtra as ‘Kudi Padwa’. Also, this festival day marks the beginning of Chaitra Navratri, which is traditionally celebrated in North Indian states. In Odisha it is known as ‘Bana Sankranti’. In West Bengal, ‘Poila Baisak’ marks the beginning of the New Year and in Assam, ‘Bohak Pihu’ marks the beginning of the New Year.
